The final closing of an asset deal between Hitachi Zosen Inova AG (HZI) and Axpo Kompogas Engineering AG will see all plant construction activities of Kompogas transferred to HZI with immediate effect.
With the acquisition of the Kompogas technology, HZI now has two technologies for waste-to-energy conversion. In addition to thermal solutions, it will in future also offer proven biogas facilities based on energy recovery by fermentation – anaerobic digestion (AD).
In various regions around the world a trend is emerging towards the separate collection and recovery of biogenic waste. HZI says it is responding to this global development by acquiring AD technology and claims it is the first company in the world to possess both these technologies.
Commenting on the closing of the deal, HZI CEO Franz-Josef Mengede said: “The two technologies complement each other ideally, generating energy from municipal residual and green waste, respectively. Synergies will also be created to allow us to develop both technologies further at HZI.”
HZI will retain the Kompogas brand after the acquisition, and will continue to perform all service and maintenance for existing Kompogas plants.
