Hitachi ABB Power Grids to supply grid connection for Qatar solar plant

Hitachi ABB Power Grids has announced that it will provide a 220kV grid connection solution for the 800 MW Al Kharsaah photovoltaic power plant in Qatar. It said that this will help Qatar’s national grid increase the integration of renewable energy and help increase operational and maintenance efficiencies on the project.

As part of the agreement with PowerChina Guizhou Engineering, Hitachi ABB Power Grids will provide a 220 kV grid connection solution including detailed engineering and equipment.

The Al Kharsaah PV power plant is scheduled for partial commissioning in the second quarter of 2021.

Mostafa AlGuezeri, Managing Director of Hitachi ABB Power Grids in the UAE, Gulf, Near East, and Pakistan, said: “Our pioneering technologies and global experience will help Qatar to diversify its power generation resources by safely and securely integrating utility-scale solar power generation into its grid.”
