Hanwha Impact and Hanwha Power Systems have announced that they have successfully operated an 80 MW gas turbine solely on 100 per cent hydrogen.

Earlier in April 2023, Hanwha, in collaboration with Korea Western Power, had successfully demonstrated 60 per cent hydrogen blending in the same 80 MW class gas turbine, a world first. During the 60 per cent test, CO2 emissions were reduced by 22 per cent compared to LNG power generation.

This 100 per cent test demonstrated a CO2 concentration in the emissions of 0.04 per cent, with the combustion process producing virtually zero CO2. Nitrogen oxide emissions were confirmed to be below 9ppm without any additional reduction devices.
