Prime Minister Mark Phillips told the Parliamentary Committee of Supply that the money is needed to subsidise the cost of electricity. He said that at the current tariffs, GPL would not be able to buy sufficient fuel, and therefore additional financial support is required. He added that despite variations in the price of fuel, GPL continues to supply electricity with no additional cost to customers since pre-covid. He said that the government has not increased the electricity rate in five years.
