In India, Hyderabad-based Greenko Energies will partner with state-run NTPC to develop ‘round-the-clock’ green power supply.
Greenko is one of India’s largest green energy developers, with a 6.4 GW portfolio and it is building power storage projects with a total capacity of 7.2 GW across six states in India. It said that its integrated renewable energy assets with storage will help it provide NTPC with clean energy during peak grid demand.
A statement from Greeko said: “Greenko Energies and NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, have entered into an MOU with an intent to explore the possibility of developing renewable energy-based RTC, flexible and despatchable power supply based on the integration of renewable energy sources and pumped storage projects. Affordable energy storage is critical to the sustained growth of renewables, grid balancing, and addressing limited generation flexibility in the Indian energy market.”
NTPC is planning a green energy push and is looking to acquire 1 GW of operational solar power project, as part of its strategy to have a 32 GW clean energy portfolio by 2032. NTPC currently has 2298 MW of renewable energy under construction.
