Under the terms of the agreement, Google will buy 890 MW of additional nuclear power from Constellation for 20 years. Constellation will invest in new equipment and technology at 11 existing nuclear reactors. The upgrades are expected to add additional generating capacity equivalent to the output of a new large nuclear reactor.

The project includes the Salem Nuclear Power Plant in New Jersey, USA. Constellation owns 43 per cent of Salem, with PSEG owning the remaining 57 per cent. The upgrades at this plant will add an estimated 97 MW of capacity.

Constellation said that it will upgrade equipment such turbines, steam generators, and digital control systems.

The first uprate is expected to begin supplying additional power in 2028, with the projects rolling out successively until 2032.
