Power giant GE has signed a contract with Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) worth nearly $700 million to supply further F-class combined-cycle gas turbines, and associated services, to Saudi Arabia.
GE's technology will help improve SEC's combined-cycle power plants and generate an additional 3.8 GW of power while providing significant fuel savings and lower emissions.
"We chose GE once again for our largest project because of their advanced technology, which features proven efficiency performance," said Mr. Ali Albarrak, president and CEO of SEC.
GE has previously been chosen as supplier for SEC's PP9, PP10, PP11 and PP12 power plants, and PP13 and PP14 will feature 12 GE 7F-5 gas turbines, four GE steam turbines and 16 generators.
GE equipment is used in supplying more than half of Saudi Arabia's power generation capacity, with more than 500 gas turbines installed across the Kingdom.
Shipment of GE's equipment is expected to begin at the beginning of 2015.
