The German company Flender has commissioned India’s largest wind turbine gearbox testing facility near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. The 13.5 MW test rig will support large next-generation turbines and strengthen India’s wind turbine manufacturing system.
The facility includes India’s largest test rig to validate wind turbine gearboxes. Flender said that the wind industry is in the process of transitioning from mid-scale turbines to large, high-efficiency machines. By expanding the testing capability from 6 MW to 13.5 MW, Flender aims to support the development of next-generation large turbines.
The newly commissioned test rig is designed to simulate extreme mechanical loads and operating conditions.
