Georg Stamatelopoulos, CEO of EnBW, said: “The power plants needed for the energy transition cannot be financed by the market alone. That is why the German government needs to create a framework of regulatory incentives for more investment as part of its programme for the first 100 days in power.”

The Stuttgart-Münster site is involved in waste incineration for CHP. It originally had three coal-fired boilers to supply additional heat when waste incineration did not generate enough heat in the winter. These coal-fired boilers are being replaced by the new hydrogen-ready gas-fired power plant. The new gas turbine plant consists of two 62 MW units, and the plant will supply Stuttgart with 124 MWel and 370 MWth.

The plant will go into commercial operation following successful trials.
