Damianos said that the expansion of energy storage will strengthen the country’s electricity network and support the increasing use of renewable energy. He said that the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSOC) has already signed contracts for its own battery storage facilities, with the equipment expects to arrive in January 2027. The first 120 MW are scheduled to be installed before summer 2027. He said that he expects storage capacity to reach several hundred megawatts by the end of 2027, with the additional infrastructure allowing more solar power to be integrated into Cyprus’ electricity mix while improving the reliability of the system.
