CPV plans $3 billion power station with carbon capture in West Virginia

Competitive Power Ventures (CPV) has announced plans for a $3 billion carbon capture project in West Virginia, USA. The CPV Shay Energy Centre, based in Doddridge County, will consist of a 1800 MW CCGT with carbon capture.

Jennifer Wilt, Director of the Doddridge County Economic Development Authority, said that the project is a “game changer” for Doddridge County. She added: “This investment will not only create a large number of jobs during construction but will also support high-paying careers for a generation to come as this area becomes a key player in the county’s decarbonisation efforts.

The project is in line to benefit from the recently passed federal legislation, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), that expanded the 45Q federal tax credit for carbon capture.
