Coal India and Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) have entered into a €1.65 billion agreement to build an ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant in Jharkhand.
The brownfield project will consist of 2 x 800 MW units, and will be an expansion of the existing Chandrapura Thermal Power Station, which currently consists of 2 x 250 MW units.
The joint venture company will be on 50 per cent equity sharing basis. Coal for the proposed power plant would be sourced from coalfields close to Coal India’s subsidiaries Bharat Coking Coal and Central Coalfields.
The MoU also includes provisions to explore opportunities to jointly develop thermal and renewable energy projects to meet the growing power demand in the DVC valley region.
