Coal India Limited (CIL) has announced plans to invest €2.7 billion to build up to 4.5 GW of renewable energy generation capacity. It signed an MOU with the ammonia producer AM Green to increase India’s hydrogen and ammonia production.
In addition, CIL has announced it will construct a two-unit 1600 MW coal-fired ultra supercritical plant in Jharkhand state, India.
CIL and AM Green said they plan to build 2500-3000 MW of solar power, predominantly in the states of Gujarat and Rajasthan, and 1500-2000 MW of wind energy capacity, largely in the southern part of India. CIL officials said this is part of the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
AM Green said that it will integrate the wind and solar energy with hydro pumped storage energy to supply energy for its facilities, which produce hydrogen, ammonia, and other chemicals.
