China’s wind and solar power generation up 27 per cent in H1 2025

According to a report from the energy think-tank Ember , China’s wind and solar electricity generation in H1 2025 was 27 higher than that of H1 2024. Ember also noted that over the same period, China’s fossil fuel-powered generation fell by 2 per cent.

In the 12 months to June 2025, wind and solar generated 2073 TWh, and all other forms of zero-emission electricity generated 1936 TWh over the same period.

China is the biggest global investor in clean energy, spending €535 billion in 2024, 31 per cent of the global total. In addition, Chinese companies now account for about 75 per cent of global patent applications in clean energy technology.

Ember said: “These investments in the clean energy future are driving dramatic cost reductions across the world in key technologies such as wind turbines, solar panels, storage batteries, and electric vehicles.”
