China’s National Bureau of Statistics said that the country’s thermal (mostly coal-fired) power generation fell 5.8 per cent in January and February compared to the equivalent period in 2024 to 1020 TWh.
Hydropower, China’s second largest power source, rose 4.5 per cent to 146.1 TWh.
China publishes data for January and February in a combined release to smooth out the effects of the Lunar New Year, which can fall in either month.
