Azerbaijan signs several deals for 2.4 GW of renewables

The Azerbaijan Ministry of Energy has signed several contracts with Chinese companies for the development of renewable energy and battery energy storage projects totalling 2.4 GW capacity.

These agreements include an MOU with China Datang Overseas Investment and PowerChina Resources for the development of a 2 GW offshore wind project to be located in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea.

In addition, the Ministry of Energy and SOCAR Green have signed an agreement with China Datang Overseas Investment to develop a 100 MW floating solar power plant with a 30 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) on Lake Boyukshor, near Baku.

The contracts also include an investment agreement for the 100 MW Gobustan Solar project between Azerbaijan and Universal Solar Azerbaijan, a subsidiary of China’s Universal Energy , and an agreement with PowerChina Resources for the development and implementation of a 160 MW solar power plant.
