Amogy , a supplier of ammonia-to-power solutions, and GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) from South Korea have signed a joint venture agreement to develop carbon-free electricity generation systems using ammonia.
The agreement includes development of a 40 MW plant at the Yeongilman Industrial Complex, which will use green ammonia as a carbon-free fuel to supply regional industrial electricity demand.
Amogy’s technology cracks ammonia to extract hydrogen, which is then used to power hydrogen-capable gas turbines. Amogy said that this approach offers a scalable solution deployable at smaller sites without complex infrastructure.
Jin-hong Huh, Senior Executive Vice President of GS E&C, said that the joint venture aims to open a new market for green ammonia-based carbon-free power generation. Commercialisation is expected to start this year in Pohang, South Korea, ahead of planned international expansion. GS E&C would contribute its global EPC capabilities, while Amogy would provide its ammonia-cracking technology.
