AGL is seeking environmental approval to build a 250 MW open-cycle gas turbine power station in Kwinana, Western Australia, Australia. The plant is scheduled to start operating in 2029, when coal-fired power is due to be eliminated from Australia’s South West grid.
The K2 power station would operate as a peaking plant. It will run on gas, but be capable of burning other fuels, including hydrogen and diesel. It will be built on the site of the existing 120 MW Swift Power Station 40 km south of Perth.
AGL said that it has not yet chosen the type and number of gas turbines.
