A consortium led by Acwa Power has signed a project agreement to develop a 1.1 GW wind project in Egypt, with an investment value of $1.5 billion. The project is located in the Gulf and Suez and Gabal el Zeit area. It will be the largest single contracted wind farm in the Middle East region.

The wind project is forecast to reach financial close by Q3 2024. The project will be commercially operational by the end of 2026. The project will have turbines with a blade length of 220 m.

This is Acwa Power’s third project – and first wind farm – in Egypt, after the 120 MW Ben Ban solar IPP in the Aswan region and the 200 MW Kom Ombo solar plant.
