Acciona Energia retrofits 1 GWh BESS to solar plant in Chile

Acciona Energia has announced it will add a 1 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to the 238 MW Malgarida solar power plant in the Atacama Desert in Chile.

The BESS to be deployed will be a 200 MW/1000 MWh (5 hour duration) complex, to be deployed at the Malgarida solar power plant.

The Malgarida plant was commissioned in 2021, comprising two phases. Acciona Energia said the batteries will allow the plant’s output to be stored, managed, and dispatched as required.
