Zimbabwe’s power utility Zesa is set to import electricity from the Zambian company Nusenfwa to address power shortages in Zimbabwe. Fullard Gwasira, spokesperson for Zesa, said Nusenfwa was a private public partnership, and Zimbabwe was aiming to import up to 100 MW from Zambia this year. He said: “Zimbabwe will initially import 56 MW from Nusenfwa, but will add 20 MW until it ramps up to 100 MW, as some of the mitigation measures to ensure the availability of electricity in this country.” Gwasira said that the Zimbabwe government was currently spending $6.5 million per month on power imports from the South African utility Eskom.
