Yangjiang 6 nuclear reactor enters commercial operation

China General Nuclear (CGN) has announced that Unit 6 of the Yangjiang nuclear power plant in Guangdong province in China has met commercial operation conditions, and is now generating electricity. The 1000MW CGN-designed ACPR100 PWR achieved first criticality on 22 June, and was connected to the grid on 29 July. Following this, a series of commissioning tests have been successfully carried out.

Units 1-4 at Yangjiang are CPR-1000s, and Units 5 and 6 are ACPR1000s. Unit 1 entered commercial operation in March 2015, with Units 2-4 following in June 2015, January 2016, and March 2017 respectively. Unit 5 entered commercial operation in July 2018.
