The 2 GW Lijiaxia Hydropower Station, believed to be the world’s largest double-row turbine arrangement, has started operation in China’s northwest Qinghai province.
Unit 5 of the plant passed a 72-hour trial operation and was officially put into operation on 10 October. This is the first time that China has adopted a double-row turbine arrangement.
In addition, Unit 5 is an important supporting power supply for the grid network, balancing the intermittent power supply from solar and wind power generation. It enables stabilisation of the variable output of wind and solar power generation.
