World Bank to provide $217 million to Bangladesh to improve energy infrastructure

The Bangladesh Government has signed a $217 million financing agreement with the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) to upgrade a unit in the Ghorashal power station, which will more than double the generating capacity of the plant.

The project will reduce the specific fuel consumption per GWh by 44 per cent, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the project will provide capacity building and institutional support to the Bangladesh Power Development Board.
