Westinghouse has announced that it is submitting bids for two potential new nuclear reactors in Canada, and will open a satellite office in Toronto to support the bids. Westinghouse is preparing construction plans and cost estimates for two of its AP1000 reactors at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, owned by Ontario Power Generation. Westinghouse has already secured general counsel and stationed a senior consultant in Canada.

Westinghouse said that a “large percentage” of the construction would be sourced from Ontario and other parts of Canada. It said that construction of the reactors would employ about 3500 workers during the peak of the building phase, and about 700 workers after construction.

Darlington currently supplies about 20 percent of Ontario’s electricity.
