Westinghouse Electric and Framatome have been chosen to supply fuel for the Czech Republic’s Temelin nuclear plant, replacing supply from TVEL of Russia, part of Rosatom. The Czech Republic said that Rosatom was excluded from consideration on security grounds.
State-controlled power company CEZ said that Westinghouse and Framatome will supply fuel for 15 years starting in 2024. CEZ operates two 1000 MW reactors at Temelin.
CEZ also operates four 510 MW reactors at the Dukovany nuclear power plant. Fuel is currently supplied by TVEL, but the government of the Czech Republic said that further fuel supplies will not come from Russia, again citing security grounds.
CEZ launched a tender last month to build a fifth reactor at Dukovany. Rosatom has been excluded from bidding for the tender.
