Wärtsilä has won a contract from Kahraba , a subsidiary of Egypt Kuwait Holding , in which Wärtsilä will supply an additional 20 MW to the existing Borg El Arab power plant. In addition, it will upgrade the existing 40 MW plant will an upgraded control system.
Borg El Arab currently operates with four Wärtsilä 34SG engines running on natural gas. As a result of increased industrial demand for electricity, additional generation capacity is needed. Two additional Wärtsilä 34SG engines were chosen. The extended Borg El Arab plant is expected to become fully operational in 2023.
