VPI Immingham is a 1240 MW CHP plant, rated as one of the most efficient in Europe. This expansion will take the total capacity to 1539 MW, in addition to the 930 tonnes of steam per hour it currently produces.

David Brignall, Manager of VPI Immingham, said: “We are very pleased that VPI Immingham OCGT plant has been granted a development consent order. The plant can deliver large amounts of electricity and will complement intermittent sources of electricity and help maintain grid stability in the UK. Dependent on a Capacity Market contract, construction could start in early 2021.”
