The Uzbekistan government has announced that it plans to build new power plants and energy storage facilities, along with 7000 km of new power lines and the introduction of digital management systems to ensure efficient distribution. Over the next five years, $4 billion will be invested in modernising the national power grid.
A key priority is expanding renewable energy sources, and by 2030, it expects 50 per cent of the country’s electricity to come from renewable sources. Plans include constructing 3000 mini hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 164 MW and adding 750 MW from solar and wind power.
In addition to expanding clean energy, Uzbekistan intends to improve industrial energy efficiency. The goal is to reduce energy waste by 10-15 per cent across all industries and cut electricity losses from 14 per cent to 8-9 per cent by 2030.
