The award plans to finance 1280 MW of solar, wind, and wind/solar hybrid projects, as well as 100 MW of energy storage projects and the retirement of 1.1 GW of coal-fired power generation capacity. These are expected to help Tri-State’s members reach 70 per cent renewable energy in 2030 and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.8 Mt/year.

USDA also plans to invest nearly $1 billion in grants and loans to leverage investments of $6.4 billion for 1.75 GW of renewable energy for rural communities across the country.
