US renewable company SunEdison files for bankruptcy

Major shareholders include OppenheimerFunds Inc (11.9 per cent), BlackRock Inc (6.5 per cent), the Vanguard Group (6.4 per cent) and Adage Partners GP LLC (5.4 per cent).

SunEdison has struggled over the last few years with a number of problems. Rapid expansion in 2014-5 left the company with huge debt. Currently the company is being investigated by the US Department of Justice and the US Securities and Exchange Commission over the failed Vivint Solar deal and other issues.

SunEdison’s financial problems have put dozens of projects across the world into jeopardy.
