The US Department of the Interior (DOI) has approved construction of the Ten West Link Transmission line project between Tonopah, Arizona and Blythe, California.
The project involves a 125-mile 500 kV transmission line and will support development of future solar energy projects and storage resources in the two states. Once complete, the transmission line will be capable of carrying 3.2 GW. It will increase the reliability of the power system in Central Arizona and Southern California.
The transmission line will use the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) ‘Energy Corridor’ and the US Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) designated utility corridors.
Deb Haaland, Secretary of the Interior, said: “Approving this new transmission line on our public lands will accelerate our nation’s transition to a clean energy economy by unlocking renewable resources, creating jobs, lowering costs, and boosting local economies.”
