The US Department of Energy (DOE) will concentrate on growing baseload generation to meet growing electricity demand, according to DOE Secretary Wright.
US Secretary Energy Chris Wright, founder of the fracking company Pinnacle Technologies, said: “Net-zero policies raise energy costs for American families and businesses, threaten the reliability of our energy system, and undermine our energy and national security.” He added: “We must… permit and build energy infrastructure and remove barriers to progress, including federal policies that make it too easy to stop projects.
DOE will support more efficient permitting to enable private sector energy investments and expedite the approval and construction of coal and gas energy infrastructure. Wright also said that the DOE will review its process for setting energy efficiency standards for appliances. He said: “The department will pursue a commonsense approach that does not regulate products out of the market; instead, affordability will be our guiding light.”
In its R&D programmes, DOE will focus on “affordable, reliable, and secure energy technologies such as fossil fuels.” Wright added that: “The department must also prioritise true technological breakthroughs – such as nuclear fusion and AI – to maintain America’s global competitiveness.”
