US coal-fired power generation down to 26.9 per cent

Data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) of the USA showed that coal-fired power generation totalled 87.98 GWh in October, down 9.6 per cent from September, and down 2.6 per cent from October 2017. Coal made up 29.6 per cent of US electricity generation during the month, up from 27.1 per cent in September, and 28 per cent from October 2017.

Natural gas-fired electricity generation was 124 GWh in October 2018, down 13.1 per cent from September, but up 16.1 per cent from October 2017. Natural gas made up 38.1 per cent of US power generation in October, down from 40 per cent in September, but up from 33.4 per cent in October 2017.

Total US generation at utility-scale facilities came to 325.4 GWh in October, down from 8.8 per cent from September, but up 1.6 per cent from October 2017.
