The USA and Ukraine have announced the launch of a project to construct an SMR in Ukraine.
In addition to Argonne National Laboratory and Ukraine’s Energoatom , National Security and Defence Council , and State Scientific and Technical Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Safety , multiple private companies will be involved.
The US State Department said in a statement that the “Ukraine Clean Fuels from SMRs pilot project will demonstrate the production of clean hydrogen and ammonia using secure and safe SMRs and cutting-edge electrolysis technologies in Ukraine. The project will support Ukraine’s energy security goals, enable decarbonisation through clean hydrogen generation, and improve long-term food security through clean ammonia-produced fertilisers.”
