Following the sale of the network, ESB will be responsible for transmission and distribution of electricity throughout the whole of Ireland, for the first time.
ESB has assured Energy Minister, Arlene Foster over concerns regarding the transaction, in particular over job losses. She said: "These include ESB investment plans, the importance of securing existing jobs, and maintaining the identity of the electricity network business in Northern Ireland."
The sale does not affect NIE Energy, the company responsible for billing customers that is also owned by Viridian.
