Rodney Hacker, consultant of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) commented at a seminar put on by the Azerbaijani State Agency for Renewable & Alternative Energy Sources (SARAES), that Azerbaijan has great potential to develop and use renewable energy sources.
The international seminar in Baku was aimed at investigating ‘Support for sustainable energy development in Azerbaijan’.
"The country is a great place for use of solar energy. Azerbaijan also has the ability to use mini-hydro power plants," Hacker said.
In turn, SARAES deputy director Jamil Melikov noted that 11 mini-hydro power plant projects (less than 1 MW each) are already at various stages of implementation in Azerbaijan.
In the coming years Azerbaijan has plans to build from 25 to 40 minihydro power plants.
