Most significantly, electricity output for Ukraine’s nuclear power plants was cut by 7.7 per cent this year, down to 83.209 TWh. Output from the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant fell 4.8 per cent, Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant decreased output by 23.3 per cent, Rivne nuclear power plant cut production by 9.7 per cent, while Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant saw a 6.6 per cent increase.

Ukraine’s thermal power plants and combined heat and power (CHP) plants saw their output fall by 2.2 per cent to 86.58 TWh, primarily due to a fall in CHP generation of 14.2 per cent over the year.

Hydropower saw a 31.2 per cent increase in generation to 14.215 TWh, while renewable energy from wind farms, solar power plants and biomass almost doubled in 2013 to 1.247 TWh.

Nuclear power made up 43 per cent of Ukraine’s 2013 energy mix, down from 45.5 per cent in 2012, with thermal and CHP plants accounting for 44.7 per cent, the same as in 2012. Hydropower accounted for 7.3 per cent , up from 5.5 per cent, and renewables supplied 0.6 per cent, up from 0.3 per cent.
