Energoatom said in a statement that Ukraine’s energy strategy for the period up to 2050 includes plans to increase domestic nuclear power generation capacity. The statement said: “Thus, the Energoatom team is actively searching for new sites for construction. The most promising site is Chyhyryn, near the town of Orbita in Cherkasy region. The plan is to build four new reactors using the AP1000 technology.”

The first step in implementing this project has already been taken. The Chyhyryn City Council has passed a resolution to:

  • Grant permission to develop a land management project for allocating land to NAEC Energoatom for permanent use.
  • Transfer land plots with a total area of 38.15 hectares to NAEC Energoatom for permanent use.
