UK Government ministers are reported to be examining ways in which China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) can be blocked from participating in future power projects in the UK. This change in stance could, according to some reports, affect the Sizewell C nuclear energy project in Suffolk and the proposals for a new plant at Bradwell-on-Sea in Essex. Sizewell C is scheduled to be built by EDF with backing from CGN.
A spokesperson for the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) declined to comment directly on the report. They said: “Nuclear power has an important role to play in the UK’s low-carbon energy future, as we work towards our world-leading target to eliminate our contribution to climate change by 2050.”
