UK loses WEC top energy rating after green policy reversals

In its annual ‘Energy Trilemma Index’, the WEC downgraded the UK from an AAA to an AAB – a rating that reflects individual country’s energy security, equity and sustainability.

Joan MacNaughton, executive chair of the World Energy Trilemma study, said: “The UK government must give more predictability to investors in the way the electricity markets reforms are progressed… More transparency is needed about the future approach to contracts for difference and the levy contract framework.”

The changes in renewable support has already cost hundreds of jobs and is expected to scare off green energy investors.
