The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has asked customers to “be aware of their power consumption” as heavy snow and cold temperatures create a record demand across southeast USA.
TVA said that it is actively monitoring weather conditions, and that its power system remains stable. It said in a press release: “Conservation requests are often used in the power industry to help lower demand during a specific time and does not indicate TVA is experiencing emergency conditions.” It said that the cold temperatures have increased demand, and that winter limits the availability of solar generation in the morning hours.
TVA said that it will invest $120 million in 2024 above regular funding levels to enhance the reliability of its generation fleet.
