Turkey to start privatisation of electricity generation

Ahmet Aksu, Vice President of the Turkish Privatisation Authority, has said that the country will soon start to privatise electricity generation. He said: “We will call for tender to take into private ownership the Hamitabat thermal power plant at the end of August of the beginning of September.” He said that a decision has already been taken to privatise four thermal power plants as well as the portfolio groups.

The four thermal power plants to be offered separately are: Hamitabat (1120 MW), Soma A-B (1034 MW), Can (320 MW) and Seyitomer (600 MW).

Nine portfolio groups have been formed to date. Three of them comprise solely of thermal power plants, four of them solely hydroelectric power plants, and two a mixture of thermal and hydroelectric power plants.
