TransCanada plans to build 900 MW gas-fired plant in Ontario

TransCanada has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ontario Power Authority to build, own, and operate a 900 MW natural gas-fired power plant at Ontario Power Generation’s Lennox station. TransCanada said that it and the OPA will finalise a contract based on the terms of the MOU, which it expects to be completed by December 14.

TransCanada operates the 683 MW Halton Hills Generating Station in Ontario, has a 50 percent stake in the 550 MW Portlands Energy Centre in Toronto, and has agreed to purchase nine Ontario solar plants with a combined capacity of 86 MW. TransCanada also owns a large portion of the Bruce Power nuclear facility – 49 percent of Bruce A and 32 percent of Bruce B.
