Tangedco to add 3000 MW in four years

Demand for electricity in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu has been increasing, surpassing 350 million units per day at peak summer periods. To meet this demand, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) said that it plans to add nearly 3000 MW of capacity over the next four years, with work having already started on three thermal power projects.

A senior official with Tangedco said that other power power projects were in the pipeline, including the 2 x 660 MW Udangudi Stage 2 power station, the 660 MW Ennore TPS Replacement project, the 4000 MW Kadaladi TPS, and two hydropower projects, the 500 MW Kundah Hydro Electricity Station and the 2000 MW Sillahalla Hydro Electricity Station.
