Türkiye’s President Erdogan has officially inaugurated the 1350 MW Kalyon Karapinar solar power plant, said to be one of the five largest in the world built on a single site.
The plant has been developed in the central province of Konya by Kalyon Energy . The plant consists of over 3.2 million solar panels that are expected to generate 3 GWh annually. The $1 billion plant increases the share of solar energy in Türkiye’s total energy production by 20 per cent.
Last year, Kalyon Holding agreed to sell a 50 per cent stake in Kalyon Energy to International Holding Co (IHC) from Abu Dhabi for about $490 million. The transaction included the solar power project in Karapinar, in addition to another in Gaziantep region and a wind power project in Ankara.
