State Grid of China constructing five pumped storage power plants

The State Grid Corporation of China, which runs the majority of the nation’s electricity distribution networks, is constructing five pumped storage power plants to increase domestic new energy power generation. The State Grid said that the plants will not only give a long-term boost to the economy, but will also play a significant role in boosting the nation’s share of clean energy, and contribute to a stable and effective modern power system.

The five plants have received a total investment of $5.64 billion, and once completed, will have a total installed capacity of 6 GW. The plants are located in: Funning, Hebei Province; Jiaohe, Jilin Province; Qujiang, Zhejiang Province; Weifang, Shandong Province; and Hami, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Construction is scheduled for completion by 2026.
