W. B. Ganegala, Chairman of the CEB, said that the price of a litre of low sulphur furnace oil has been increased from 75 rupees to 100 rupees. He also stated that the price of a litre of high sulphur furnace oil has been increased from 65 rupees to 90 rupees.

The CPC stopped supplying fuel to the Kerawalapitiya diesel power plant recently due to non-payment of nearly 9 billion rupees for fuel supplied.

Anura Priyadashana Yapa, Minister of the Petroleum Industries, said that the price increase was necessary to prevent the massive losses currently being incurred by the CPC when providing fuel to the CEB at concessionary rates.
