South Korea to invest in two hydropower projects in Pakistan

A delegation from South Korea’s Ministry for National Restoration has expressed keen interest for investing in the construction of the 4500 MW Diamer Bhasha Dam project and the 969 MW Neelum-Jhelum hydropower project. The head of the delegation, South Korea’s Minister for National Restoration Myung-Pil Shim, said that South Korean companies were already working in different water and power sector projects, and more investors were keen to invest in Pakistan. Shim said that South Korea has expertise in the field of flood mitigation and wanted to share its experience and technical knowledge with Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Water and Power, Ch Ahmed Mukhtar, said that Pakistan had great potential in hydropower generation, with 59 GW of identified potential hydropower projects, and that the country was focusing on indigenous resources to generate cheap electricity.
