By 2020, Thien Tan Group will spend $2 billion to build five large solar power plants in the southern province of Ninh Thuan. A 50 MW solar plant will commence operations later this year, followed by four plants, each generating 200-300 MW. The combined output of the five plants will be around 1 GW.

Overall, Ninh Thuan province plans to attract 4.85 GW of large solar power plants by 2030.

TTC Group has announced that it will build 20 large solar power plants in southern provinces by 2020, including a 320 MW plant in Tay Ninh province and a 300 MW facility in Binh Thuan province.

Khanh Hoa province has also invited Vietnam Electricity to build and operate 120 MW of solar power plants, with operation starting later this year.

The Vietnam Government has said that it is trying to nurture solar power generation as the country’s main source of electricity. Solar power currently only accounts for 0.01 per cent of total power generation capacity, but the Government plans to increase the ratio to 3.3 per cent by 2030, and 20 per cent by 2050.
